EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT / OFFICE MANAGER (Seoul based, full-time)

Korea Risk Group, the parent company of NK News, is seeking an Executive Assistant / Office Manager to work in a full-time role that will ideally begin in August 2018.

Korea Risk Group is a fast-growing start-up that produces reliable news, data, and analysis about North Korea. Given the high-profile nature of our specialist audience, the company regularly interfaces with the Seoul-based diplomatic, military, corporate and think tank communities. As a result of growing needs, the company now requires a polished all-rounder to provide executive assistance to the CEO, plan and prepare events and conferences, as well as manage the smooth running of the companies’ Seoul bureau.

Reporting to both the CEO and Communications Manager, the Executive Assistant / Office Manager will be responsible for:

  • Planning and administrating events and conferences (both in Seoul and overseas)
  • Attending meetings and conferences on behalf of the company
  • Providing research, translation and administrative assistance (in English and Korean) to senior staff
  • Booking staff travel, replenishing office supplies
  • Forecasting and recording of local expenditures
  • Paying bills and managing relationships with third-party vendors
  • Overseeing companies’ news trainee recruitment process
  • Assisting CEO with other tasks, as per request

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 1+ year(s) experience in a similar area
  • Excellent spoken and written English, mother tongue fluency in Korean
  • Fine attention to detail and track-record in implementing complicated projects and processes
  • Desirable: Good knowledge of North Korea issues and broader regional affairs
  • Desirable: Knowledge of NK News and NK Pro platforms, familiarity with our journalists’ work
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team while maintaining a high level of efficiency and professionalism

This will be a Seoul-based office position, meaning the hire should be able to commute regularly to the company office in the city center.

Conditions: Between 1.5 to 2.5 million KRW per month (employee status, including four insurances and vacation according to Korean Labor Law)

NEWS TRAINEE (Seoul based, part-time)

NK News is seeking a Seoul-based, bilingual Korean / English news trainee for a part-time (25 hours/week), three month period, starting in September.

Working at the NK News Seoul office, the news trainee will be responsible for assisting in monitoring the media, gathering relevant Korean language news, translating selected news and features from Korean to English (and vice versa), and corresponding with Korean speaking contacts and sources.

Further, the news trainee will be taught how to write news and features and be invited to regularly contribute stories to the site, initially supporting full-time writers.

Other duties will include assisting the Communications Manager with administrative tasks, such as translating Korean articles for the weekly ‘Foreign Media Monitor’ newsletter and translating pieces for the “Ask A North Korean” column.

Upon successful completion of the training program, the trainee will be able to publish under his or her own byline.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent written Korean and English (Korean proficiency is essential)
  • Translation or writing experience, preferably in a news environment
  • High attention to detail
  • Knowledge and understanding of North Korea
  • Good initiative

Please note this educational traineeship is unpaid. However, the company will provide weekly transportation passes, as well as daily lunches.
